Van Delivery Policy

Resource Sharing and Van Delivery are among the core services for Illinois Regional Library Systems as outlined in Standards for the Services of Illinois Multitype Library Systems. Effective resource sharing is in part depending upon a clear, well-maintained van delivery structure. NSLS advocates resource sharing among members as critical to good service for users of libraries of all types. NSLS supports resource sharing by operating a van delivery service among other strategies.

Delivery of interlibrary loan library materials is one of the five core services for Illinois Library Systems as defined by the Illinois State Library in order to encourage the sharing of resources by Illinois libraries. NSLS supports and advocates resource sharing as critical to the success of its member libraries. To this end the following policy has been developed.

In compliance with the Standards for the Services of Illinois Multitype Library Systems NSLS Van Delivery Service will deliver the following items:

  • Library Materials - defined as items that are classified, catalogued and available for loan.

  • Items sent out from NSLS.

The following are included among items that will not be delivered by NSLS Delivery Service:

  • Items that are individually addressed and can be mailed via the U.S. Postal Service.

  • Library newsletters which may be mailed, exchanged at networking group meetings, or obtained online.

  • Bulk items intended for distribution to the public.

All other items will be delivered at the discretion of the NSLS staff.
