NSLS Board of Directors Application for Candidacy

Nominees need to be the named Representative of their library. For public libraries, this means being on the library's board of trustees and being named by that body as the official Representative. For all other library types, the Representative will need to supply a letter (either hard copy or electronic) from the person in charge of the library declaring that the nominee is the Representative of the library.

The NSLS Board of Directors has identified four ways by which we govern (Governing Strategies):

  • Recognize and facilitate the concept of NSLS as a leader in seizing opportunity and implementing innovative ideas. Suggest ideas and bring forward opportunities. Evaluate ideas and opportunities that are presented and offer support and guidance to the NSLS staff.
  • Welcome opportunities to represent, promote, and advocate for libraries and librarianship. Represent, promote, and advocate for NSLS to our members, the Illinois General Assembly, and the communities. Represent, promote, and advocate for NSLS members within our communities to expand appreciation for the evolving role of libraries and librarianship.
  • Cooperatively identify, nurture and utilize the talents, strengths, interests, and experiences of board members to further the mission of NSLS and offer individual board members opportunities for personal fulfillment.
  • Exercise financial responsibility and accept legal stewardship of NSLS. As individuals, board members will increase their knowledge and understanding in this area. Work with NSLS staff to assure accountability and value in the investment of the System's resources.

*How would you contribute to the Governing Strategies?

*In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing libraries today?
